The effects of meditation have been extensively researched scientifically, and all of these studies demonstrate the many health benefits of meditation.

There are many different types of meditation, but the scientific studies that have been done mainly focus on two types of meditation. These are mindfulness meditation where you focus on one single thing, like your breath. The intention should be to focus on this one thing, and whenever your mind wanders off you always return to focus on this one thing.

The other way of meditation on which much research has been done is open monitoring meditation, here you observe everything around you, without responding to anything.

To meditate it’s best to sit somewhere in a quiet place. You don’t have to sit for hours straight away, but yo can start with just a few minutes. When you make it your routine to meditate every day for a few minutes, you will notice the benefits yourself. You can for example try to concentrate for a few minutes on the rhythm of your breath, or you can focus your eyes on one point, or keep your eyes closed. You could also recite a mantra (a word or a phrase) mentally for a few minutes in order to create tranquility in the mind.
